From one favorite city to another, we flew from Logan International Airport to JFK. The flight was short and smooth, and I couldn't help but listen to "Welcome To New York" by Taylor Swift as we were approaching New York. It's been 6 years since I was last in the city so it was so good to be back.
We took a cab from the airport to our hotel located near 8th Avenue. We stayed at the Marriott Fairfield Inn Times Square which is actually a short walk to a bus terminal and Shake Shack. Still quite far from Times Square though, so the branch name is quite misleading. However, seeing as it is a walking city, we did not mind the distance. We actually had trouble looking for a hotel in Manhattan since it was Memorial Day weekend (prices were very steep) and we booked less than a week before.
We were also close to The New York Times, just a minute walk away. Another short walk from the hotel is Broadway where the theatres are all lined up.
First agenda when we got to New York was of course to eat and we opted for Shake Shack. Getting seats when you dine in is hard so we were lucky enough to immediately get seats before our food was even served.
After eating we took the subway to Battery Park where we were supposed to board the ferry to Staten Island.
We weren't interested in roaming around Ellis Island so after taking the ferry back to Manhattan we walked from Battery Park to famous places like Wall Street and Ground Zero.
The New York Stock Exchange.
Ground Zero and One World Trade.
We woke up 4am that day and we did a lot of walking so this is me resting near the Trump Tower.
From Wall Street we went back to the hotel to meet up with two of my Aunts and my grandmother. We had really good $1 pizza slices for "snacks" before heading out again to watch Les Miserables. I wouldn't deny accidentally falling asleep because we were very tired and slightly jetlagged. It was also cool to see Matthew Broderick exiting the theatre across the street after watching Les Miserables.
Before heading home we had dinner off a food cart. I ordered a falafel with spicy sauce on it.
The first day in New York was a really good one for me albeit very tiring as well. I can't wait to share my 2nd day in New York!
